All students have the opportunity to visit the Science Room in a small group each week. The most captivating feature of the Science Room is a 50-square-foot touch tank containing fish, crabs, mussels, and other inhabitants of Long Island Sound, which invites hands-on exploration.
The room is also home to a variety of other animals including bunnies, guinea pigs, a turtle, and sharks. In addition to observing and caring for the animals, the children learn about concepts like hibernation, migration and nesting through games, books, and hands-on materials. Throughout the year, the children study the changing seasons and other scientific topics such as magnetism, light and color, bones, and the solar system and outer space. They also learn about life cycles through observation of hatching eggs and the metamorphoses of small creatures.
