Preschool Lead Teacher - Leave Replacement
Putnam Indian Field School is hiring a Leave Replacement Teacher for the 2026-27 school year.
Putnam Indian Field School is an independent, co-educational preschool in Greenwich, CT for children ages 2-5. At Putnam Indian Field School (PIFS), our students enter into an environment in which discoveries take place. We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved in play, engaged in activities that intrigue them and that lead them to make choices, explore, experiment, investigate, discover, and create.
This Leave Replacement position is a one-year position, beginning in a three-year-old classroom in the fall and then moving to an older three & four-year old classroom for the remainder of the year. The Leave Replacement Teacher will co-lead the classroom of 14-18 children in conjunction with another Lead Teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Makes and documents accurate observations of child progress and assists with progress reports and parent conferences.
- Maintains a clean, healthy, effective, and attractive classroom environment.
- Supervises and manages the health, safety, and responsibilities of children at all times.
- Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive relationship with children by fully implementing systematic behavior supports.
- Works collaboratively with another Lead Teacher in implementing learning plans and other responsibilities related to classroom preparation and maintenance.
- Establishes and maintains positive and professional relationships with families.
Qualifications:
- Have a deep understanding of the school’s curriculum and philosophy as well as knowledge of an advanced type in the field of early childhood education.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have a minimum of an associate degree and must demonstrate progress in working toward a bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Degrees earned must be in the area of early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or early childhood special education.
- Completed student teaching or had one year of full time employment.
- Be able to move about the facility, lift and move 50 lbs., run, bend, and sit on the floor.
- Vision and hearing must be corrected to the degree needed to supervise young children.
Details and Commitment of Position:
- Salary range: $55,000 – $60,000 depending on experience and credentials
- 9-month, full-time, temporary position
- Additional summer and after school work available
- FLSA Exempt status
