The most arresting feature of the Science Room is a 50 square foot touch tank containing fish, crabs, mussels and other inhabitants of Long Island Sound which invites hands on exploration. The room also houses bunnies, guinea pigs, and a blue crayfish. In addition to observing and caring for the animals, the children learn about concepts like hibernation, migration and nesting. The sun, moon and solar system are other subjects for exploration and discussion.

The Sensory Play Room offers the children a chance to create and explore various textures and media. The children can experiment with water and sand, cornstarch and flour in our sensory tables. They can paint on a huge easel, using all manner of utensils including their hands and feet. The best thing is that the children can work freely, learning the properties of materials, without worrying about making a mess.

In the Art Studio, the older children work in groups of three or four with a teacher who is also an artist. Here they learn techniques of working with clay, collage, oil crayons, and other more sophisticated materials.

The Multi-Purpose is a place where children can play games and exercise under the guidance of a teacher. It offers miniature basketball, “pillow” hockey, and other active games with rules as well as balance beams, and tumbling equipment. This room in especially popular on days when weather prevents the children from going outside.
